Speaking Engagement: OddCon 2008 Panels
I will be appearing on some panels at OddCon 2008, a Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention here in Madison. This year, the convention will feature fantasy author George RR Martin, science fiction author Kage Baker and Madison fan Richard S. Russell. I’m not too clear on Richard’s involvement, though doing a quick Google search it’s apparent he’s pretty connected to the community as well as other cons in the area like WisCon in Madison, a feminist science fiction convention.
The panels I am participating in will be on Friday, April 4th and Saturday, April 5th. Tentatively Scheduled is a panel with George R.R. Martin as moderator on Friday afternoon; the other panels I have listed below are confirmed.
- Panel 34 - 20 Points of View/Engaging Characters
- Panel 46 - FLASH! Is It Fiction or Poetry? Is it SF?
- Panel 70 - Fantasy: How Magic Changes Things
I’m pretty excited about the last one, as I’ll get the chance to touch base again with Wisconsin author Pat Rothfuss. I had met Pat at a Tad Williams’ bookstore appearance; you can read my Name of the Wind book review for an overview of his successful first novel.
I’m also hoping that author E E Knight will be there. Also a successful midwestern author, read the EE Knight interview to learn more about his two novel series: Vampire Earth and The Age of Fire.
I will be covering the con moreso than I did last year; this event will launch my convention schedule so I hope it will be a great experience.
